Biography
Amelia Edith Barr (Huddleston) (b. Mar 29, 1831 in Ulverston, Lancashire, England , d. 1919) was an Anglo-American novelist,
In 1850 she married William Barr, and four years later they emigrated to the USA and settled in Galveston, TX where her husband and three of their 6 children died of yellow fever in 1867. With her three remaining daughters Mrs. Barr removed to New York where she began to write for religious periodicals and to publish a series of semi-historical tales and novels.
Her first novel Jan Vedder’s Wife was published in 1853. Other novels are A bow of Orange Ribbon, A daughter of Fire, Friend Olivia, Beads of Tasmer, Sister to Esaou, A rose of a Hundred Leaves, The lone House and prisoners of Conscience. She has also written Romance and Reality, The Hallam Succession, Young people of Shakespeare’s time and a number of other stories
